I can replicate this bug: Browser: Firefox 3 RC 1 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008051202 Firefox/3.0 Distro: Gentoo xorg-server: 1.3.0.0-r5 xorg-x11: 7.2 nvidia-drivers: 169.09-r1 $ uname -a Linux ricercar 2.6.24-gentoo-r7 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon May 5 17:40:35 EDT 2008 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Most of the time, I end up with a black screen, and have to magic-sysrq reboot. A few times I've been dropped back to the console, and a few times I got a row about 10 pixels tall along the top of the screen of the framebuffer image, and the rest black.

Created attachment 17033 [details] Xorg Crash I can also replicate this bug. This problem also exists for me when loading http://www.irmacs.sfu.ca/events/past_events.php I have confirmed this bug on Firefox 3 RC1, RC2 and at least one of the previous betas. I have also confirmed this bug on multiple Fedora 8 installs with different video cards/drivers (nvidia on one, Intel i810 on another) I'm running the xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.3.0.0-44.fc8 rpm. I have filed this bug to the Firefox folks and they suggested I file it here also. Reference bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437665 Attached is my xorg.0 crash log
Looks like there may be a possible related bug at bug 15787
I can replicate this bug too with Firefox 3 Final (3.0). It occurs with all MediaWiki sites (like Wikipedia) that are larger than approx. 350 KB. With other browsers (Opera, Konqueror, Firefox2) it doesn't occur. It happens on 2 different systems, an Athlon XP 2400 and a Pentium 3. Seems to be the same issue like the following problems on the Mozilla bug site: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427488 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430559 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440831
Created attachment 17770 [details] Xorg crash log (contains backtrace) I can confirm a similar problem. Visting certain websites with Firefox 3 crashes my X server randomly (it doesn't depend on the website). Mostly it happens when watching a video on YouTube. It is a little bit hard to replicate the bug, but it happens since upgrading to Firefox 3 once or twice a week. The crash happens always with the same backtrace. I've attached my crash log. It doesn't seem to be a driver-specific problem, because it happens with FGLRX as well as with the open source radeon driver (6.9.0 as well as with the latest GIT version). frieder@friedi ~ $ uname -a Linux friedi 2.6.26 #9 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jul 19 13:16:45 CEST 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Using Gentoo-package x11-base/xorg-server-1.4.905 (but also happened on version 1.4.0.90-r3 and 1.3 with FGLRX). It happens when running Compiz as well with Metacity (without any compositing). It also does not depend on using EXA or XAA.
