Hello, An improved version of current french Dvorak layout is going to be set up by community of users (on http://gpl.insa-lyon.fr/Dvorak-Fr/), and we'd like to include it in Xorg. You'll find in attachment a preliminary patch, as we aren't ready at now. One of our main concern is how to handle old (obsolete) dvorak layout (from J.Mouette) and how to name our improved one. A version of this layout also exists for Typematrix 2030 keyboard (see http://gpl.insa-lyon.fr/Dvorak-Fr/XKB6%2e2%2e1%2e1) but I didn't include it in the patch as I don't know how to handle it. Could you please evaluate this patch, I'll take account of your remarks for the real one ? Thanks, Frédéric.
Created attachment 7489 [details] [review] preliminary patch Here is the preliminary patch for comments
Does "preliminary" mean I should not commit it? Or is it ready for commit - but you're kinda letting me know there might be some changes?
(In reply to comment #2) Don't commit it, It was here only as a draft, as I didn't know if it is complete nor correct. I'll submit real one soon, perhaps today...
Created attachment 7551 [details] [review] New bepo (french Dvorak) layout Here is the correct patch (from my view point :)
A remark for french translators : we suggest the description « Bépo, ergonomique, méthode Dvorak » for the new layout, and « (Obsolète) Dvorak » for the legacy one...
Err, declaring someone else's work as obsolete without his consent is unfair. AFAICT Josselin would prefer to merge both French dvorak layouts. I do not know if this is doable from your point of view, but it seems to be a better option.

This layout is an evolution of J.Mouette's one, updated and improved from statistical works and french Dvorak community. You can see in : https://if-gpl.insa-lyon.fr/pipermail/dvorak-fr/2006-October/000469.html that J.Mouette (citation) is OK with this process ...
Ok, if Josselin is happy with obsoleting existing variant - I am committing the patch. If he is unhappy - we could always try to merge/revert or smth. Hopefully it will not be treated as disrespect or offence.
