After installing X.org 6.9.0 on an old Compaq Armada running FreeBSD 6.1, the X
server will spin when any X clients attempt to start (including the xdm login
screen).  The hardware works OK with XFree86-3.3.6 on FreeBSD 4.11.

A trace of the process shows:

XAA isn't a thing anymore, so if this is still broken it's assuredly broken in some new way now.
