Description Gorka Navarrete 2013-06-12 18:44:04 UTC
Problem description: Opening the attached document with LO 4.1_beta2 takes 58% more time than opening it with LO 4.0.3

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open with LO 4.1_beta2
2. Open with LO 4.0.3

Current behavior: It takes about 46 seconds to open in LO 4.1_beta2 and 29 seconds in LO 4.0.3 a ~58% increase.

As a side note, the same file in xls format takes 8 and 10 seconds respectively to open in 4.1_b2 and 4.0.3 (1/5 of the time for LO 4.1_b2).

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.1.0.0.beta2

See attached file COMPILED_all.ods (~10MB): http://ubuntuone.com/6sTF7zBSCktZppXx1DmMli

Also, see attached file COMPILED_data.ods with benchmarks comparing LO 4.0.3, 4.1_b2 and MS office 2007 opening and saving ods, xls and xlsx versions of the COMPILED_all file. Those versions were created by opening COMPILED_all.ods with LO 4.0.3 and saving as xls and xlsx: http://ubuntuone.com/3sLlKCKxaVBmRYmEewG5GW

Hi Gorka,
can you try? if the options in:
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/Formula - Recalculate on file load,
make any difference.
Comment 3 Gorka Navarrete 2013-06-13 01:16:16 UTC
Hello mariosv,

Those options are set as "never recalculate" for both xls and odf files. Changing them to Always recalculate increases the opening time by a couple seconds.

I also tried enabling and disabling the sidebar but the times remain stable.
Comment 4 m_a_riosv 2013-06-13 08:17:26 UTC
Maybe some option is different:
Menu/Tools/Options/Load-Save/Save - Always create backup.
Menu/Tools/LibreOffice/Memory.
Comment 5 Gorka Navarrete 2013-06-20 12:24:23 UTC
Hello mariosv,

All those options are the same in both LO 4.0.x and 4.1

Can you confirm the regression?

Hi Gorka, the file crash LibreOffice 4.0.4.2 after try so save as without success, even with a clean profile. Can you attach the file in other format to do another try.

Hi mariosv,

The xlsx version of the file: http://ubuntuone.com/1FoJ3FK4hTqjYTGMTN8fD0

Opening the xlsx file from comment #7
Win7x64 Ultimate
LibreOffice 4.1.rc1
Open near to a minute and can save in ods.

LibreOffice 4.0.4.2
I can not "save as", and an unpredictable behaviour, hangs doing nothing or crash trying to copy the sheet in a new file or closing the file.

With 3.6.6.2 crash opening the file.

With 3.5.7.2 opens fine but near to 20 minutes to open, but can save in ods.

Saved with:

v4101 - ods - 10105 KB attached in next comment.

Comment 10 Björn Michaelsen 2013-06-26 15:29:15 UTC
File opens fine on LibreOffice 3.6.0 on Linux -- so indeed possibly a release regression.
Comment 11 Björn Michaelsen 2013-06-26 16:11:33 UTC
Also opens fine both on LibreOffice 3.6.7 rc1 and 4.0.3 final on Linux here. As such, I assume the crashers mentioned in Comment 8 are actually some low OOM condition. Moving version back to 4.1.0 beta2 as that is the version reporting the performance regression against 4.0.3. Please file a new bug for issues unrelated to the 4.0->4.1 performance regression.

Using Test file: COMPILED_all_3572.ods

OSX 10.9.5, LO 4.3.2.2: 10 seconds
Ubuntu 14.04 LO 4.2.6.3:10 seconds

Using SSD here, So HDD maybe slower.

So basically worksforme.

Setting to NEEDINFO. Please back to NEW if the slow opening is persisting for you with latest LO releases.
Comment 13 Gorka Navarrete 2014-10-07 12:49:16 UTC
Yup. Seems to be fine in LO 4.3.2.2 :)
