i915_error_state

Trying to run "Age of Empires 2 - Conquerors" hangs the GPU.

I'm currently running the following software versions:
- linux-3.8-rc7
- media-libs/mesa-9.1
- x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.42
- x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.21.3
- x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.1
- app-emulation/wine-1.5.20

Hang related messages in kernel log:
[ 846.000039] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[ 846.000061] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
[ 846.008864] [drm:i915_reset] *ERROR* Failed to reset chip.

Slightly puzzling. Is the hang always the same?

Third error state, this time under linux-3.8
Comment 5 Chris Wilson 2013-02-25 22:17:06 UTC
Those errors look consistent. So something is definitely off in the GPU state for that command.
