Attached patch fixes pkgconfig on bi-arch platforms (like SuSE Linux 10.0
AMD64), which require libdir to be /usr/lib64.

Please have a look on the autoconf documentation for an explanation why writing
configured paths to files from inside configure.ac is not a good idea. 

Please rework your patch to contain just the bi-arch stuff and I will merge it.

This has been fixed by r1091 in SVN as it seems. If not, feel free to reopen
