I have tested my 1st LO-3.4 build of today's git master. I see there that the new default color for drawings is more green. It is fine with the Tango icon theme but it does not look well with the Oxygen or Galaxy icon themes. The icons color is a pure blue. See the attached screenshot.
Christoph, Kendy, what do you think about it?
Hi Petr, I seem to miss the screenshot. Since I don't have access to the master build, could you please re-upload it? I didn't knew about the different color for the drawings, but here are some general remarks (for the record) what was wrong with the one introduced in OOo: 1. The color has to match one of the default color palette, otherwise the default graphics items have no color name but "[]" --> very ugly from the user's point-of-view 2. The color coding is replicated in the icons of some icon sets (e.g. Galaxy icons --> blue --> drawing object). The Tango icons (as far as I know) miss such coding.
Created attachment 44755 [details] Screenshot showing the problem.
Thanks Petr! Very good catch; it looks strange, since this color is new in the palette and "breaks" the "Color 1 ... 8" structure we had. The original color has been "Blue 8" Personally, I don't have a good recommendation, both options: a) changing back to "Blue 8", or b) keeping "Blue 9" have it pros/cons. If there is a technical rationale, please decide ... I'd like to forward it to the Design list. If we have finalized the current branding improvements within the Design team, we can propose a new default color. This would be a sufficient reason for a change. @Petr: Is there a sane way to add a keyword like "VisualDesign" or "Design/UX" to this bug? (Sorry, until now I only used pre-defined keywords.)
Hi Petr, sorry ... couldn't sleep :-) It seems that this change be related to a recent inclusion of OOo stuff. Here is a recent specification (look for "Default color of drawing objects") that defines "Blue 9": http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Specification_BetterDefaults_BulletsColorsShortcuts#Detailed_Specification

I am not aware about any other technical rationale. > I'd like to forward it to the Design list. (Sorry, until now I only used pre-defined keywords.) I guess that only freedesktop administrators could do it. The easiest way might be to open a new bug against the product "freedesktop.org", component "bugzilla" and ask for it. Alternatively, you might ask Michael Meeks or Jan Holesovsky (kendy). They are in contact with admins.

I do not see any explanation why the new color is better. I feel that it might be more decent/elegant but it looks strange together with the icons.
What about adding green 9 (and maybe more 9th colors?). (pastel colors are very suitable for color printing)
added myself to CC
EasyHackified this. As this is mostly about configuration setup, fortunately no deep code knowledge is needed for starters. Unassigning and CC'ing myself.
[This is an automated message.] This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1 more detail on this bulk operation: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RFC-Operation-Spamzilla-tp3607474p3607474.html
An EasyHack should have been checked by developers and thus is confirmed regardless of age. Moving back to NEW from NEEDINFO again. Sorry for the hassle.
