Description Drew Bertola 2005-04-12 00:24:21 UTC
Under FC4 Test 1, I was unable to get xorg X server running on my recently
purchased Powerbook 15in w/ ATI Radeon 9700.

I was able to get xorg running using an ubuntu xorg.conf (everything else was
stock FC4T1 - no patches, hacks, etc.). The ubuntu xorg.conf (attached below)
utilizes the UseFBDev option as noted in the Device stanza excerpted here:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section "Device"
Identifier	"ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 M10/M11 (RV350 NP)"
	Driver "ati"
	BusID "PCI:0:16:0"
	Option "UseFBDev" "true"
EndSection

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bugzilla'd this on redhat (<a
href="https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=151459"
target="_new">151459</a>) , but mharris@redhat.com thought it should be bumped
up here. He says:
<blockqoute>The real fix is to report this to X.org and have them add the video
modeline directly to the server for this non-standard display size,
as it is likely to get more popular. This way the ugly fbdev hack can
be avoided, and the native video driver is in control of the display
resolution.</blockqoute>

I've attached the Xorg.0.log file below (from running the ubunto xorg.conf w/
UseFBDev).

This was from a successful session that used the Ubuntu xorg.conf (UseFBDev
option).
