Created attachment 35771 [details] gxinfo Driver unclear whether i915 or Mesa periodically crashes, predictably under high graphic-load applications such as google earth, and intermittently under other circumstances. Information -- chipset: 845G -- system architecture: 32-bit -- xf86-video-intel: 2.11.0 and 2.9.0 -- xserver: standard with Ubuntu 10.04 -- mesa: 7.7.1 -- libdrm: -- kernel:2.6.32-generic -- Linux distribution: Mint 9 (Ubuntu 10.04) -- Machine or mobo model: Dell Inspiron 1040 -- Display connector: VGA Reproducing steps: Google Earth will bring it down every time, as will GL screensaver "stairs", ant maze, etc. Screen displays "Proc219 Glib warning: Get pwuid_r Failed due to unknown user" and then proceeds to cycling shutdown attempt. Behavior is better under 2.11 than 2.9 with screen and bootsplash/command line remaining both visible and switchable.
Sorry Eric, on further research this appears to just be another manifestation of Bug #26345 845 CPU/GPU incoherence. I am gratified by the progress you and your team seem to be making with the i855, and disheartened by the lack of any apparent testing or progress regarding the i845 (a seemingly idiosyncratic processor), this concerns me as the last distributions that support this hardware at all will lose support in October of this year, after which we shall all be forced to use VESA until the i845 is successfully patched. Sorry to have wasted your space and bandwith. Here stooping to your clemency, I await new drivers patiently
One day we will find a way of making 845 do the right thing... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 26345 ***
