Description Bart Muder 2009-08-27 03:47:18 UTC
Hello,

I read on Carl Worth's blog about reporting performance problems with the new UXA architecture - so here is mine.

I experience low performance with certain QT4 themes, especially Plastique theme and kde's default theme Oxygen.
Especially resizing windows feels slow the window contents lag behind the window borders a lot especially for more complex windows.

Top shows quite a lot time spent in "sys" mode.

I am using Kubuntu-9.10-alpha-4 on an GMA965.

Please let me know in the case you need additional information.

Hi Bart,

Thanks so much for the report.

Can I get a few more details from you? Did you notice a particular slowdown
when moving from one version of the driver to another? And if so, which
versions?

Or is it just that things are generally slow?

Your Xorg.0.log file will contain details of the driver version, etc.
You can find more descriptions of useful things to include in a bug report
here:

http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html

When you come back with more information, please remove the NEEDINFO keyword
from the bug report.

Thanks, and hopefully we will get things performing better for you soon.

perf is a useful tool in these scenarios to find where the time is going, and especially it's ability to filter on process and shared objects.

Judging from many of the comments, 2010Q2 should perform much better with KDE thanks to our improved handling of Images.

What I have seen from xtracing Qt applications suggests that time would be better spent improving the graphics libraries...

Feedback timeout. It sounds like KDE performance problems have been fixed anyway in the last year and a half, so assuming this one's fixed.
