For all the options provided by xkeyboard-config concerning the caps-lock key there is still one missing. One very obvious and useful option. One that will make all mankind happy: Disable caps-lock. YES YES YES YES!!!!! No don't tell me to xmodmap -e 'remove Lock = Caps_Lock', this only works with regular keyboards. Not with bluetooth keyboards which reinitialize after not having been used for a few minutes. Besides it's a hack. There should be proper function for it in xkeyboard-config so end users can apply it without having to meddle in the console. *surpresses urge to write message in full caps*
Let's calm down a bit... Why are the options to make Caps ESC/Super/Backspace not enough for you?
Ha! I was ranting in gest! Not too seriously. But my plight is serious, deadly serious. </booming voice> Because I often hit the key by accident while typing the 'a.' And seeing the number of hits on disabling the key all together on any other OS as wel as X using OSes I think it's time for a feature request. Giving the key any other function doesn't help the problem, since it will not result in caps keys, but in other unwanted behaviour.

1) It's unusual and weird. People will not look for that solution, they will simply look for the button to disable the capslock. 2) The next key-press will get lost.

Well, that's some kind of "workaround", I'd say > 2) The next key-press will get lost. Why??? If you unpress Caps first - nothing happens. Anyway, I will think of that option.

Please get real and look at the results of google for "caps-lock" or some variation to that. What have you found? A neutral article on wikipedia explaining the function of the key, and tons of sites CURSING that key! > > 2) The next key-press will get lost. > Why??? If you unpress Caps first - nothing happens. That's only a realistic solution to one finger typists. > Anyway, I will think of that option. Uhuh.
google results are impressive, I must admit.
caps:none added. you won;)
Much appreciated!
