I sometimes have this error message and a xserver freeze:

/etc/init.d/gdm restart fixes the problem.

The display adapter and usb controller are sharing irq 16 and I lately I saw a few usb related problems. Maybe it has something to do with it.

I would be happy to provide stack traces etc...

How is your gdm configured?  Possibly a dupe of 20867?

I am running
2.7.99.901+git20090611.6d062e9e-0ubuntu0sarvatt~jaunty
now and I haven't seen this message anymore.

The gdm configuration has AlwaysRestartServer not set, did
you mean that?

I think this can be closed, I will reopen if it happens again.
