Forwarding this bug from a Ubuntu reporter: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/357942 [Problem] With UXA, when I load up Xorg I may or may not see corrupted images on my screen. However, no matter what, half a second later, the screen goes black and I can't Alt+Ctrl+F<n> to a command prompt. I'm using an Intel 945GME Express [8086:27ae] (rev 03). Hi, I'm the original reporter.
Adjusting severity: crashes & hangs should be marked critical.
UXA never worked on non-GEM kernels until after 2.7.0. Please try 2.7.99.1, which includes a series of fixes that got it working for me.
As Eric says, this should be resolved with more recent versions of the driver. Please feel free to re-open the bug report if you upgrade and still have problems.
