Description Mehkt 2009-04-12 18:09:59 UTC
The driver only produces a dotted green screen with blotches on it at a low resolution (around 600x400). I cant see anything else.

It seems to have detected VertRefresh and HorizSync frequencies correctly, but seems to have a real problem with sorting out the image.

I've got an Intel Corporation 82830 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] on a Dell Inspiron 2600. Im at the moment using vesa which seems to work fine for the moment, but without the intel driver I cant use compiz :(

Please provide more info according to http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html.

Is there an older version of intel driver ever working for this machine?

About 3 years ago I was able to install ubuntu no problem, it detected my
graphics card easily and all was fine. I left linux for a bit, came back and
now no distro seems to be compatible. Im using Debian Lenny which for some
reason seems to except the vesa driver where all the others didnt.

There were also some compilation errors when I tried to install the ver
2.6.0 of the xf86-video-intel driver:
./configure was fine
make gave:
i830_lvds.c: In function ‘i830_lvds_get_modes’:
i830_lvds.c:827: error: ‘DS_VENDOR’ undeclared (first use in this function)
i830_lvds.c:827: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
i830_lvds.c:827: error: for each function it appears in.)
make[4]: *** [i830_lvds.lo] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/home/tetris/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.6.0/src'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/tetris/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.6.0/src'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/tetris/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.6.0/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/tetris/Desktop/xf86-video-intel-2.6.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I looked for this error online, and the only thing I found about it was that
you had solved it in a later release.

I'd appreciate any help
Thanks.

Can you try a recent distribution like newer Debian or Ubuntu 9.04?

I don't see what I can do at this point. Closing until you get the result on new code or new distro.
