Video showing the flickering: http://datadump.moeeeep.com/gentoo-i810bug/display_errors.avi (i was not able to add it as an attachment)
>> Im not quite sure how the xf86-video-i810 driver (gentoo) is named on freedesktop, but I assume it's part of the intel driver. Yes, xf86-video-intel is the intel driver name. I think it's 965GM, not 945GM. right? How about if you remove below line in xorg.conf Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" This will be the default setting which we support. This seems similar to bug#17405. Could you verify if the patch mentioned in http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17405#c5 helps?
(In reply to comment #2) In the newest Gentoo Release of the Intel driver (xf86-video-i810-2.4.1-r1) the patch you mentioned is already integrated. > I think it's 965GM, not 945GM. right? yes, thats right > How about if you remove below line in xorg.conf > Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" > This will be the default setting which we support. This removed the flickering for me. > This seems similar to bug#17405. > Could you verify if the patch mentioned in > http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17405#c5 helps? After installing the 2.4.1-r1 release and xorg 1.5.0 i first thought it removed all flickering (with "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" enabled): i could now use firefox without problems. I ran into the flickering when i watched flash videos or used the terminal to run a portage update (that's when i created the video) With Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" disabled and the patched 2.4.1 release (2.4.1-r1) i don't see any flichering anymore.
(In reply to comment #3) > With Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" disabled and the patched 2.4.1 > release (2.4.1-r1) i don't see any flichering anymore. So I'm closing this. Note "greedy" is not the default option supported by upstream developers, and it will be removed in the future.
