Of note, repeated starting of X server also hangs system (no backlight display, system still is responsive however this may be another bug though).
Please also attach the full xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files. It looks like backing store may be enabled as well?

Yes, disabling backing store gets me composite when enabled crashes.
Adjusting title and reassigning to Adam Jackson, who rewrote backing store to use Composite.
