Attached is a complete Icelandic keymap for macintosh computers which mimics the Mac OS keyboard layout. It should be put in symbols/macintosh/ and be named "is" e.g. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh/is Having this in a future X release would be very nice;)

Created attachment 974 [details] An Icelandic layout for macintosh computer. Oops, uploaded the wrong file, thats what hours upon hours of xkb hacking do to your brain;)
it is in xkeyboard-config already
REOPENING and assigning this back into the xorg product under the Input/Keyboard component. This file is already in /xlibs/xkbdesc/ but not in /xorg/data/xkbdata/ which is what's packages in the default xorg distribution. Having this in the default distribution without having to install an additional package would benefit those using an Icelandic keyboard layout on Macintosh computers, and because of its nature it won't break anything else.
Created attachment 4462 [details] An Icelandic keyboard layout for Macintosh computers This attachment is the same file as http://cvs.freedesktop.org/*checkout*/xlibs/xkbdesc/symbols/macintosh_vndr/is?rev=HEAD except is uses the macintosh/ directory instead of the macintosh_vndr directory, see attachment 4351 [details] [review] and bug 5597
Copying the statement we put together a couple of months ago on xkbdata vs. xkb-config: There are two sources of keyboard configuration data available for the X.Org X11R7.0 modular release: xkbdata & xkeyboard-config. xkbdata is provided by X.Org and consists of a modular release of the keyboard data files from the X11R6.9 monolithic tree. It is mostly compatible with previous releases from X.Org and XFree86 and should require little change to most configurations. However, there is currently no maintainer for xkbdata and it is not expected to be maintained after the X11R7.0 release. xkeyboard-config is provided by the XKeyboardConfig project on freedesktop.org <http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/XKeyboardConfig>. It was originally based on the same configuration data files as xkbdata, but has undergone extensive work and restructuring, and is actively enhanced and maintained. It contains support for more languages and more internet/multimedia extended keyboards, but may require changes to the config files of more users as full backwards compatibility has not been maintained. At this time it is likely that xkbdata will be replaced by xkeyboard-config in a future release of the Xorg modular tree, and a number of distros/packagers have already decided to use xkeyboard-config in their X11R7.0-based releases of Xorg packages. Unless someone steps forward to maintain xkbdata, xkb-config will be the default in future X.Org releases.
