While running lastest X on gentoo (7.4), i get a black screen on X startup if i use the last driver in portage (x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810-2.1.99. Now, the best: I m able to get into X with the 2.1.1 one but i cant get into my native LCD resolution (1280*800) in simple head mode. But in dual head mode,i can have the 1280*800 resolution without any problems. Because of that, i tried to update to 2.1.99. Magicly, all was running out of the box I switched off my laptop on my end day, and back to home, swich on the laptop, and, nightmare BLACK SCREEN when X starts. I tried to ssh it from another box and sees that X was not crashed but use 100% of the cpu (just one core hopefully)... To sum up, i can use the 2.1.99 version but i must start x with the 2.1.1 version, kill it, reinstall the 2.1.99 version and restart X ... So there is something wrong (regression) somewhere. I tried the kernel module from the kernel sources (gentoo-sources-2.6.22-r8) and from the lastest gentoo x11-drm package, with the same black screen error. kiorky@judith ~ $ X -version X.Org X Server 1.4.0 kiorky@judith ~ $ uname -ar Linux judith 2.6.22-gentoo-r8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 14 16:50:56 CET 2007 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
