I've just compiled and installed xorg 6.7.99.902 with the gentoo ebuild in portage. Everything seems to work on my radeon 7500 (open source drivers) even if with transparencies the system is too slow to be usable, but there are two problems with opengl software. Performance are better than with previous stable release (+10% fps), but with xcompmgr enabled: 1) slowdown and framedrops occur every few (random) seconds: if I launch xcompmgr with option -n there are occasionally black zones that cover the surface of open windows on desktop (for example the console I use to launch the program) and with xcompmgr -a there are just the slowdowns 2) menus appear for an instant and are immediately covered by the graphic (this happens for example with celestia); it seems that they are drawn only when the mouse passes over them
> 2) menus appear for an instant and are immediately covered by the graphic (this > happens for example with celestia); it seems that they are drawn only when the > mouse passes over them i can confirm this bug in a nVidia system with latest drivers. performance is good, but menus and windows are covered by any OpenGL app.
Do you still experience this issue with a current release of xorg?
Still experiencing (2), (1) seems to be ok now (xorg 7.0)
Modifying this entry to reflect the cause of (2).

I don't think this is really a duplicate, reopening. http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DirectRenderingToRedirectedWindows has a rough plan for fixing this. Work has started but will take a while, so don't hold your breath.
