And, is this a regression, i.e. Has it ever worked before? It actually works with 2.6.3 and KMS enabled. 2.6.3 with KMS disabled and versions >= 2.7 (both with KMS enabled and disabled) still produce black screens only, will attach more debug output for those. Unfortunately trying to boot 2.6.30-rc* on the machine causes an instant reboot (probably not related to the graphics chip), so I can't run intel_gpu_dump 2.7.0 with ModeDebug and without KMS causes a crash Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/X(xorg_backtrace+0x37) [0x812f2e7] 1: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so [0xb7c906c8] 2: /usr/bin/X(InitOutput+0x50a) [0x80a824a] Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. I use latest driver, 2.7.99 and compiled with modedebug option succesfully. Could you please answer the Michael's question on comments #2, "Has it ever worked before?" If yes, would you please like doing git bisec on your machine to find which version introduced this regression? Starting X on an Acer Aspire 150Bk (graphics chip 8086:27ae, subsystem 1025:019c) just results in a black screen; tried xf86-video-intel 2.6.3, 2.7 and 2.7.99.1 all with the same effect.
