One of the many good things about the iWork and Microsoft Office suites is that they come with fully done themes, similar to the current Master Slides of LibreOffice. However, unlike these other suites Master Slides are limited to a single background. If they could have multiple backgrounds for different text layouts (i.e. title slide; title, content; etc.) each with a fitting background and custom text boxes + styles, that would be a great leap forward for LibreOffice in the home environment. Thank you for your report. LibO allows you to affect to you slides: - different "master" slides, - different layouts, - different styles for slides components. It might appear rough-and-tumble (need to find and read the doc), but are you sure that you cannot fit your need with that? Anyway, enhancement, not bug.
I'll revise the report to be more clear about what I wish to be in the enhancement then. Also it is already marked as an enhancement rather than a bug
Forgive the second post but evidently I can't edit the earlier post (or can't figure out how to do it). What I want to be added to the enhancement list is an improvement to the current system of master slides, to ease the use of them and make them more similar to those of other suites. I shall spend this weekend working on a report of what sort of improvements this system within Impress could use. If your request for me to suggest as to how it can be done is a request for me to suggest coding, I'm afraid I don't have much experience in that area at all.

No that is not what I meant. As such, good and clear reports are very useful. For people in the UX, team, developers looking through the open issues. One clear well worked out report is wordt more then a dozen half baken ones ;) Cor

Currently each master slide applies a single background and text styling to a slide. In other suites, a single 'theme' contains multiple slide backgrounds, each with its own text layout and styling. I downloaded a theme from the a microsoft powerpoint theme library, and as you can see in the attached picture, it loads, though with many interprobility (unsure of spelling of that) errors. If you look at the upper right corner of the attached picture, you can see that each design is displayed as a separate master slide. Though with massive amounts of work it can be worked around, in day to day use, it feels tedious, inefficient, and downright annoying. If a set of designs could be integrated into a single set of master slides, displayed as a theme and with the background being automatically changed with layout (choosing "centered text" layout changes to the background associated with "centered text"). With this upgrade would come the need for separate preset text styling for each layout.

I propose that we implement a new system of implementing master slides and text arrangements on slide. I would like to suggest that we combine backgrounds and text layouts into one single thingy (couldn't think of a better word, sorry), in which a "theme" which contains several backgrounds and corresponding text layouts, such as a "title slide" which would have a background designed to suit a title slide, and a text positioning AND orientation (to support tilted text for more variety), slide designs for various types of content oriented slides. This would extend libreoffice's attraction to everyone, especially students and others who prepare presentations regularly. So to review, a THEME contains several SLIDE DESIGNS. Each SLIDE DESIGN contains a background text formatting (font, text size, color, etc) text boxes and their orientation

I do not understand why you want so complicated things. It is easy to say I suggest that or I propose that, but I do not see any rationale in this enhancement request, but only a request to mimic MS-Office. Many LO users do not know MS-Office anymore since ages. Please explain how your proposition will make their life (not only yours) easier. Best regards. JBF
