Description garb 2013-09-03 16:37:26 UTC
Pressing Ctrl+Z to cancel last modification results in program general failure (window closed, program off memory). This failure is rather frequent and appeared (according my experience) on version 4.1.0 and persists on 4.1.1.

Another failure of the same command (Ctrl-Z) just bring the insert point to the top of the document.

I started to use strace but did not reproduce the bug yet.

This bug generates an insecure feeling when your document is big and important for your activity (translation of EPUB specification).

Thank you for this nice piece of software, anyway ! :-)

not reproducible on 4.1.1.2 under Win7 64bit.

have you ever experienced such a bug with 4.0.x releases?
do you have other computers to test 4.1.x release apart from the computer where you see the bug?

edited summary notes (version has its own field, don't need to repeat it in summary) and updated the version field to earlier version where the bug appeared.

It's difficult to work for a long time on my other (portable) machine for that kind of work. I must say my machines are running Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04 amd64 with 16 GB memory. The problem was reproduced several time on the 12.04 version during long work sessions. The document is rather complicated, containing lots of tables, frames, etc. The machine on which the problem occur is very recent and is up-to-date (BIOS and Linux). If it helps I can give you any hardware information you need.

The bugs appeared in version 4.1.1 and 4.1.0 after long session of input and text formating. I don't remember if it appeared in 4.0, but do not exclude this hypothesis. At this point, I am proof-reading the document using strace. The changes done are very limited. No crash since I send the previous message.

Next week, I will start a new document of the same layout, in the same conditions where the failures occurs. I will use strace and send the trace whether the insert point jumps to the top of the document or if the program crashes.

Tks for the interest you give to my message.

I apologize for the change of plan I have to do because of many failures occuring when working with my documents.

As I said, they are mainly occuring when pressing Ctrl-Z but the also occured in two other conditions:
- In the little menu of the header, the program failed when I pressed "delete" (third option of my french version).
- It also occured in an other condition but my temper was to bad to take the time to note the details. This is very stupid of me because it was the only time I had caught a trace and I did not think of sending it.

I'm now back to 4.0.5.2.

I'm sorry being such a little help. If I can do more without loosing so often my work, I am ready to do my best.

Once again, I love this program.

I am a developper (mainly system and telecom) for a long time and I would like to give you my feeling. My document is quite complex (considered as a memory structure) and I have the feeling a bug appeared in the structure of the data, more than in a coding error. The program fails (on Linux) like when addressing an invalid address. The fact the errors appears after a long time working on the same document and the falures seam more and more frequent make me think that the data structure representing the document is incorrectly read in memory.

For now, a few hours on 4.0, no errors append. However, I use a copy of the previous document and its contents is still in the new document.

Best regards.

The errors specified in my previous messages do not appear in version 4.0.x of Writer, which appeares to be perfectly stable working in the same condition on the same kind of material..

Hi Garb,

I've got NO REPRO on Ubuntu 12.04.3 + LO 4.1.2.3 in both LibreOffice Calc and Writer.

Steps:
- Open up Calc and Writer and add some random data ("foobar, baz, etc..") to the first few spreadsheet cells or to the page
- Use Ctrl-Z to undo these actions

Result:
- Ctrl-Z reverted edits as expected

Perhaps there is something specific in your document formatting that is activating this error? If possible, please attach a minimal example document that triggers this problem on your system.
