When I click on the text box, in the attached example, which reads "click to add text", and then try insert a formula (Insert->Object->Formula...), libreoffice shuts/crashes.

Confirmed. We can test that with blank new presentation. I tested some layouts:

- "Title, Content", "Title and 2 Content" : crash
- "Title Slide", "Centered Text" : no crash

LO 4.2.5.2 - Ubuntu 12.04 x86

This should be fixed in 4.2.6
