Thanks! However, we need more information from this:

 - Does this use standard USB storage protocol, i. e. does it behave like an USB stick?
 - Which media formats can this device play back and record?
 - What's the preferred folder for music?

OK, then I'll copy the formats from the HTC phones. But the audio file folder still differs from device to device, so I still need that.

Well, the default media player shows all media files found on the card.

I know, but there is still a conventional directory where they are stored, in order to keep them in one place and not clutter the file system. When storing new songs on the device, Rhythmbox and friends need to know where.
