use GOBJECT_INTROSPECTION_CHECK from gobject-introspection

instead of own autoconf code doing the same

Behavior change:
introspection now defaults to "auto" instead of "yes".

Good idea. I committed a slightly different patch than this one since I don't believe we need to ship the m4 file:
