Description Sitsofe Wheeler 2005-02-19 16:38:20 UTC
(Orginally reported on https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=140253 )

Description of problem:
As soon as X is restarted the virtual terminals have vertical stripes going
across them and no text appears (although the blinking cursor moves around the
screen in the expected fashion as if things were working correctly). Everything
works as expected with resolutions lower than 1400x1050 or if the depth is not 24.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-6.8.1.904 (Fedora Core 3)

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn the machine on.
2. Let it boot and start X and wait for a login.
3. Press Ctrl-alt-backspace.
4. Press Ctrl-alt-F1.

Actual Results:
Screen with vertical stipes going across it and a blinking cursor.

Expected Results:
Normal virtual terminal login text.

Additional info:
lspci output for the card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 RF/SG AGP
At some point during the shutdown process the console manages to clean itself up
and appear correctly before the computer turns itself off.

A xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log have already been attached to the Red Hat bugzilla.

You should attach the files here, as your link is to beta bugzilla which
is probably going to be broken from time to time.

Update to 6.8.2 from FC3 updates or rawhide and indicate if the problem still
exists.

TIA

Problem still exists with xorg-x11-6.8.2-1.FC3.13 . Now that FC3 has been out
for a while I'm unlikely to test any xorgs from rawhide as rawhide is starting
to drift far enough away that awkward problems occur (not to mention the
dependcy chain)...

I probably won't be able to give much feedback on this until FC4 or FC5 (depends
on when the machine is upgraded).

Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
Comment 6 Matt Turner 2010-12-02 11:10:07 UTC
Is this still a problem?
Comment 7 Sitsofe Wheeler 2010-12-02 15:52:27 UTC
I don't know :) The machine that had this card is long gone so I think it's reasonable to close this bug - I know I can't/won't do any more testing on it...
