when running on the console, typing on each line has blue from the end of the cursor out to the right of the screen.
sometimes the blue mirrors the line of text above: i.e. where there are spaces
in the line above, there is black; where there are words in the line above,
there is blue - all after the cursor.
if text is typed that is longer than the previous line above, then there
is just blue after.

after typing for a long time, however, the blue goes away and remains
black.

presumably there is some sort of initialisation that isn't happening,
using whatever random crud was there.

Thanks, Luke.  One of the first things many people do is disable the vts from using the displaylink screens (per http://libdlo.freedesktop.org/wiki/TextConsole) so they aren't fighting for the framebuffer with X, etc, which is why others may not have seen it.

But I assume this is a valid issue.
