Description Bernhard Rosenkraenzer 2009-02-10 05:32:36 UTC
When doing "modprobe i915" on a Compaq Presario CQ70 (Graphics chip 8086:2a42 subsystem 103c:360b) running 2.6.29-rc4 with KMS enabled in 32 bit mode, the display turns black and the machine locks up.

It works fine without KMS; so does (with the exception of a few other, less critical bugs) 2.6.29-rc2 with KMS.

2.6.29-rc3 behaves like 2.6.29-rc4.

How about -rc7? If you see the lockup again, you might be able to login remotely and capture a sysrq-t to see where things are hanging (or just "echo t > /proc/sysrq-trigger" then capture the dmesg somewhere). We had a deadlock in the LVDS probing around -rc4, so maybe you were hitting that.

Pretty sure this one is fixed.
