Created attachment 16360 [details] first try This is a GeForce 8400M GS. I first compiled with head being ae574ec7d930d8708e4dd9d1d47558666019afe5, and tried to roll back until commit 85536023ed7050632d121299ab99382e096b9984 with no change. I find it odd because I tried nouveau yesterday or the day before and it worked fine. I also compiled latest drm (branch master, commit d015219bd0b25f367be23e5df8355f479ee53a0f) and mesa (branch gallium-0.1, commit 612f44266cba78c4e5677a2f992581fdaa17f4e4). The Debian dialog warning me that X failed to start showed some table that I don't find in the attached log. I'll reboot and take a photograph if necessary. I'm git fluent, so I can test patches, branches, etc.
