o fixes intel driver defaulting to smallest resolution (#31183)
o take into account screen width when looking for prefered resolution
  instead of only using screen height (helps choosing 1024x768 instead
  of the weird 1152x768)

  I "fabricated" a git commit that should be very close to the
original patch.

  Git master has similar code, or completely different logic in
some portions.

  X Server 1.4 is no longer the "mainstream" one,
and for most distros should be only on maintenance
state, and probably only rebuilt on rare circumstances.
